From the community center, Jeffrey was quickly transported to Wentworth
Douglass Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The subsequent autopsy would reveal a heartbreaking story of sustained abuse. The medical examiner determined that Jeffrey's death was a homicide, caused not by a single fatal injury, but by what was termed fatal child abuse syndrome. This indicated that the infant had been subjected to an ongoing pattern of abuse that ultimately led to his death.
At the time of his death, Jeffrey lived with his mother at 15 Hampshire Circle in Dover. Despite the determination that his death was a homicide resulting from child abuse, no arrests have ever been made in the case.
