His mother, Lisa Verret, described her son as someone who was actively trying to better his life for his family, having recently enrolled in a welding class at Baton Rouge Community College with plans to work two jobs to support them. He had even postponed a birthday trip to Texas with his girlfriend to look after his sister's children. The Port Allen Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation. Their efforts led to a significant development in the case with the arrest of a 15-year-old male.
