Jaylen Smith, 16, a male from Paulina, Louisiana, was shot multiple times on the night of August 6, 2025, along the 3000 block of Highway 642. Deputies with the St. James Parish Sheriff's Office arrived around 8:40 p.m., provided lifesaving aid, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Initial reports noted a vehicle speeding away from the area as investigators began piecing together what happened and appealed to the public for tips.
