Luis Canedo, 51, a Latino man, was shot in the early hours of Memorial Day, May 26, 2025, in East Los Angeles. Deputies were called around 2:30 a.m. to the 300 block of South Woods Avenue, near East Beverly Boulevard and south of the 60 Freeway, where they found him and a 41-year-old woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to a hospital; he did not survive.
Investigators later confirmed his identity as Luis Canedo and classified the killing as a homicide by multiple gunshot wounds. A coroner-linked case note lists Case Number 2025-08710 and states he was formally pronounced dead that Monday.
The woman who was wounded was reported to have stable vital signs as detectives processed the scene and canvassed for evidence and witnesses. Authorities did not immediately offer a motive.
