In the quiet neighborhood of Lutherville-Timonium, Maryland, 69-year-old Patricia Watson-Geiger, a female, was found dead in her home on Oakcroft Drive on the evening of September 15, 2025. The initial report came from her ex-husband, Karl Daniel Geiger, with whom she still lived despite their divorce in 2019 after 30 years of marriage. He told police that he had left for work that morning and returned in the evening to discover a scene of disarray, with his ex-wife's belongings scattered and
drawers open, and her body in her bedroom. He claimed it was like 'walking into your house and finding your best friend dead.'
Initially, the scene was treated as a potential home invasion, and police began a homicide investigation. Neighbors were on edge, having heard gunshots on the morning of her death but dismissing them as noise from a nearby gun range. Friends and community members remembered Watson-Geiger as a kindhearted person, a local bartender who was close with her children and grandchildren, and a loving pet owner. As the investigation progressed, inconsistencies began to emerge in Karl Geiger's account of the day's events. He had told investigators he left the house around 7:30 a.m., but surveillance footage showed his vehicle did not leave until after neighbors heard gunshots around 8 a.m.
Detectives soon alleged that the 65-year-old Karl Geiger had staged the burglary. An autopsy revealed that Patricia Watson-Geiger had died from a gunshot wound to the head. A crucial piece of evidence came to light when it was discovered that Karl had allegedly told a neighbor his ex-wife had been shot in the head, a detail that investigators had not made public. Further suspicion arose when he was observed dragging a blood-stained mattress from the home and loading it into a pickup truck.
Based on the conflicting evidence, including surveillance footage and cell phone records that contradicted his timeline, investigators arrested Karl Daniel Geiger. He was charged with first-degree murder in the death of his ex-wife. At a court hearing, where he appeared confused and requested a public defender, he stated, 'I wouldn't kill my best friend,' before the judge cut him off. Geiger is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center without bond.
