Alejandro Gonzalez Magana, 36, a Hispanic/Latino male, was shot to death late on June 26, 2025, in the Florence-Firestone area near South Los Angeles. Sheriff’s investigators said two suspects approached a vehicle in the 9000 block of Compton Avenue around 11:40 p.m., and during an attempted robbery or carjacking a struggle broke out; one suspect opened fire, striking both occupants.
Deputies found Gonzalez Magana lying on the sidewalk, where he was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second victim was rushed to a hospital in critical but stable condition. The county medical examiner later identified Gonzalez Magana and ruled the death a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to the chest.
In the confusion after the shooting, a second car pulled up—its occupants apparently trying to check on the victims—and the assailants seized the moment, carjacking that vehicle, described as a light-colored Acura, before fleeing north on Compton Avenue. Early accounts placed the initial confrontation outside a nearby dispensary at Compton Avenue and East 91st Street. Authorities did not release a detailed suspect description at the time.
As of the most recent reporting shortly after the killing, no arrests had been announced in the case; investigators publicly sought help locating the two suspects believed responsible.
