In the early morning hours of July 19, 2025, the life of 38-year-old Daphne Meyers was tragically cut short in her Warrenton, Georgia home. The Warren County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call around 3:30 a.m. reporting a shooting at a residence in the 200 block of Phelps Drive. When officers arrived, they discovered Meyers deceased inside the home from what was later confirmed to be a fatal gunshot wound.
The ensuing investigation, led by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation at the request of the Warrenton Police Department, quickly pointed to a domestic dispute as the catalyst for the violence. Authorities identified 57-year-old Charles Jeffery of Norwood, Georgia, as the suspect in Meyers' death. The preliminary investigation indicated that Jeffery had shot Meyers during the course of their argument.
Following the initial investigation, Charles Jeffery was arrested and faced charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He was subsequently booked into the McDuffie County Jail. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has stated that their investigation is active and ongoing. Once their independent inquiry is complete, the case file will be turned over to the Toombs Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for prosecution. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed at the GBI Medical Examiner's Office to formally determine the cause of death.
