On the evening of June 25, 2025, 29-year-old Faith Nelson lay gravely wounded by the road in Riviera Beach, Florida, after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to St. Mary's Medical Center in critical condition, but despite medical efforts she succumbed to her injuries about two hours later. The police classified the incident as a domestic-related violence event.
Faith Nelson and a 27-year-old man named Roberto Torres were discovered together at the scene, both injured.
Torres had sustained a gunshot wound to the jaw and was also taken to St. Mary's in critical condition. Investigators say that earlier that evening Nelson and Torres—who had been in a relationship for approximately two and a half years and lived together—were arguing in their car near the gatehouse of the Thousand Oaks gated community. Eyewitnesses report that at some point, Nelson exited the vehicle, but Torres allegedly fired multiple shots, hitting her before turning the weapon on himself.
The couple had traveled that day to meet Torres' mother, who had claimed she received worrying phone calls from her son. According to a security guard, the argument had escalated at the gate area, and one witness even said Torres attempted to shoot Nelson, missed, and then reloaded to try again before he was restrained by responding officers. Those officers arrived to find both individuals down; after a chaotic scene and emergency transport, Nelson died in hospital.
Torres was detained at the scene and currently lies in intensive care. Authorities are pursuing first-degree murder charges against 27-year-old Roberto Ernest Torres. The case is being treated as a failed murder-suicide attempt, with law enforcement characterizing Nelson's death as the result of domestic violence turned lethal. No other suspects have been publicly named.
