In the quiet city of Lewiston, Idaho, the life of 46-year-old Melissa Ann Hammond, a female resident, was tragically cut short on the evening of Sunday, September 14, 2025. The devastating events unfolded at a residence located in the 3700 block of 11th Street, leaving the community in shock and mourning. Around 8:12 p.m., the
Lewiston Police Department received a distressing 911 call reporting a shooting at the home. Upon their arrival, officers were met with a grim scene. Inside the residence, they discovered Melissa Hammond, who had succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. Also found at the scene was 54-year-old Eugene Grende of Clarkston, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency services transported Grende to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, but he passed away in the early hours of September 15.
Investigators quickly pieced together the sequence of events, determining that Grende had shot Hammond multiple times before turning the firearm on himself.
