On a Friday night in Bay Minette, Alabama, a birthday party turned into a scene of violence that claimed the life of 21-year-old Dyrontae Condarlly Booker. The male victim was attending the gathering on May 23, 2025, when the festivities were shattered by the sound of gunfire around 10:20 p.m. in the 900 block of Daphne Street. A Bay Minette police officer on patrol nearby heard the shots and rushed to the location.
Upon arrival, the officer witnessed a man, later identified as
28-year-old Decareus Keywon Mallory Andrews, fleeing the scene. Booker was discovered in the yard of the residence with multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported by ambulance to North Baldwin Infirmary, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators believe the shooting was not a random act of violence, stating that Andrews and Booker were acquainted. Authorities suspect that Andrews went to the party with the specific intention of finding and shooting Booker due to a previous undisclosed disagreement, with some reports suggesting the conflict was over a girl.
The officer who initially responded pursued Andrews on foot for several blocks before losing him. This initiated a search for Andrews, who was described by police as having a violent criminal past and being armed and dangerous. After being a fugitive since the incident, Andrews was apprehended on June 26 in Mobile by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. At the time of the shooting, Andrews was out on bond for an unrelated case. Following his capture, he was charged with murder and being a certain person forbidden to own or possess a firearm. His bond was set at $1 million.
