In the quiet community of Taylor, Arizona, the evening of Father's Day took a dark turn, leaving the small town in shock. On June 15, 2025, 62-year-old Troy Templeton, a male, and his wife, 53-year-old Cynthia Templeton, were found shot to death inside their home near the intersection of Center Street and Main Street. The grim discovery was made after Cynthia's ex-husband arrived at the residence to drop off the two children he shared with her and found the door open. He then contacted police to conduct a welfare check.
Both Troy and Cynthia were dedicated members of the Arizona Rangers, a volunteer organization, where they had met and fallen in love just a few years prior. Their sudden and violent deaths sent ripples of fear and grief through the close-knit community, which was unaccustomed to such violence. In the home at the time of the discovery was Cynthia's 21-year-old daughter with special needs, who was physically unharmed.
Within hours, investigators identified a person of interest: Cynthia's 23-year-old son, Francis Alcantar-Chavez. The Snowflake-Taylor Police Department issued a nationwide alert for Chavez, initiating a manhunt. The search came to a dramatic and fatal conclusion two days later in Missouri. State troopers there spotted Chavez and a pursuit ensued.
After a chase, Chavez crashed his motorcycle into a trooper's vehicle and fled on foot. When confronted by law enforcement, he fired a handgun, striking a trooper in his bullet-resistant vest. The troopers returned fire, killing Francis Alcantar-Chavez at the scene. The injured trooper sustained only minor injuries. While the primary suspect in the double homicide is now deceased, the investigation remains ongoing to piece together the events that led to the tragic deaths of Troy and Cynthia Templeton.
