Having retired from a 37-year career as a concrete pumper in Ramona, California, he had moved to Golden Shores, Arizona, to enjoy his retirement years close to his siblings.
The day after the holiday, on July 5, 2025, deputies from the Mohave County Sheriff's Office were called to the home following reports of a shooting. Inside, they discovered Morris's body. The investigation that followed pointed to a night of celebration that had spiraled into a nightmare. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Quintin Antonio Vesga of Las Vegas, had reportedly been consuming alcohol and illegal drugs, including psychedelic mushrooms, on the evening of July 4th. In a state of profound impairment, Vesga allegedly believed he was trapped in a nightmare.
This delusion led to a devastating series of events. According to authorities, Vesga armed himself with a firearm and, in his confused state, first shot himself in the hand. He then began firing multiple rounds inside the house, tragically striking and killing Dennis Wayne Morris. When law enforcement arrived, Vesga was detained at the scene and subsequently transported to a Las Vegas hospital for the injury to his hand.
Quintin Antonio Vesga was initially charged with second-degree murder in connection with Morris's death. As the case proceeded through the Mohave County court system, the legal outcome was a conviction for manslaughter. The court attributed the fatal shooting to reckless gunfire while under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
