David Manriquez, 18, male, Hispanic, was found shot to death early on July 18, 2008, inside a home in the 800 block of Blandensburg Street near Washington Avenue and Lamb Boulevard in Las Vegas. Police were called around 6:43 a.m., and detectives determined he had been killed by a gunshot wound to the head inside the residence.
Detectives quickly identified a suspect: 17-year-old Jonathan Romero of Las Vegas. According to contemporaneous reports, officers searched neighborhood areas that morning and later publicized Romero’s description as they sought tips from the community.
Prosecutors later alleged that Romero forced his way into the home near Lamb and Washington, confronted Manriquez—who was dating Romero’s ex-girlfriend—and shot him multiple times, including in the back of the head, before fleeing. A Clark County grand jury ultimately charged Romero with murder, attempted murder, and burglary.
For years Romero was a fugitive outside the United States. He was captured in Mexico and extradited to Nevada, where he appeared in a Clark County courtroom and pleaded not guilty. As of June 2025, he remained jailed without bail while awaiting trial in Clark County on the charges tied to Manriquez’s killing.
