Joie Ruth Armstrong, a 26-year-old white female naturalist, was working with the Yosemite Institute in Yosemite National Park when she was brutally murdered in July 1999. Originally from California, Joie was known for her passion for nature and education. On July 21, 1999, she was last seen leaving her office in Yosemite Valley around 5 p.m. She lived in the Foresta community, a cluster of cabins used by park employees near Crane Flat.
