On August 21, 1976, the body of 21-year-old white female Enid Marie Branch was discovered on a deserted dirt road in Hillsborough County, Florida. She had been shot multiple times in the face. Enid, a mother to a four-year-old son, was pursuing studies in refrigerator repair at a trade school in Tampa. To support herself, she worked at night as a sex worker.
Enid's murder was among a series of killings in the Tampa Bay area during the 1970s, often attributed to an unidentified assailant referred to as the "Gulf Killer." This moniker was associated with a possible serial killer responsible for multiple unsolved murders in the region between 1971 and 1978.
In 1982, convicted serial killer Gerald Stano confessed to the murder of Enid Marie Branch, among others.
However, the authenticity of his confession remains uncertain, as he later recanted, claiming he was coerced into making false admissions.
Despite investigations, no definitive suspect has been apprehended or convicted for Enid's murder. The case remains unsolved, with law enforcement continuing to seek information that could lead to a resolution.
