In the winter of 2011, a 68-year-old homeless man named Alex Mouton was the victim of a brutal and ultimately fatal attack in Las Vegas. On the evening of February 3rd, near the intersection of D Street and Owens Avenue, four unidentified men accosted Mouton. They forcefully pushed him to the ground, repeatedly kicked him, and then robbed him of his money before fleeing the scene.
In the immediate aftermath of the assault, Mouton did not seek any medical attention for the injuries he sustained.
It wasn't until five days later, on February 8th, that Mouton finally went to a hospital. By then, the internal damage was severe. The delay in receiving medical care proved to be critical, as his condition worsened. Tragically, on February 18, 2011, Alex Mouton succumbed to the injuries inflicted upon him more than two weeks earlier. The Clark County coroner's office officially ruled his death a homicide, a direct result of the violent robbery.
The investigation into Mouton's death was hampered from the start. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department detectives were at a significant disadvantage because they were not made aware of the attack until the day Mouton died. This significant lapse in time made it incredibly difficult to gather evidence and identify potential witnesses. As a result, authorities were left with no leads and no descriptions of the four men responsible for the senseless act of violence. The case remained unsolved with no suspects identified or apprehended.
