Troy Covella, an 18-year-old male, was fatally shot in California by Mauricio Rodriguez Silva, a convicted serial killer. Covella's death occurred during a brief period in 1984 when Silva had been released from prison after serving time for a previous manslaughter conviction. Sanders and 16-year-old Monique Michelle Hilton, both by shooting, and later strangled his 17-year-old half-sister, Martha Kitzler.
Authorities apprehended Silva on May 26, 1984, shortly after the final murder. He was charged with multiple counts of murder and ultimately convicted. In 1985, Silva was sentenced to death for the killings, including that of 18-year-old male victim Troy Covella. He remains incarcerated at San Quentin State Prison in California.
