Sandra Gallagher, a 33-year-old white woman and mother of three from Santa Monica, California, was tragically murdered on September 28, 1995. Known for her warm and generous spirit, Sandra had a habit of brightening strangers’ days by handing out flowers during her shopping trips. On the night of her death, Sandra met a man at a bar in the Van Nuys
neighborhood of Los Angeles. The two played pool and flirted, and the man later asked her for a ride. Sandra, initially hesitant, sought reassurance from another woman in the restroom who claimed to know the man and vouched for him. Feeling reassured, Sandra agreed to give him a lift. She stopped at a grocery store before heading home to her children, but she was never seen alive again.
Sandra Gallagher’s body was discovered inside her burning pickup truck. She had been raped and strangled before the vehicle was set ablaze. The brutality of the crime shocked the community and marked the beginning of a multi-state killing spree.
The suspect in her murder was Glen Edward Rogers, a white man later dubbed the “Casanova Killer” for his charm and ability to lure women. Rogers was a construction worker with a long history of criminal behavior and a volatile personality. Following Sandra Gallagher’s murder, Rogers went on to kill at least four more women across several states, including Mississippi, Florida, and Louisiana, over a span of just six weeks.
Rogers was arrested on November 13, 1995, in Kentucky. During his initial interrogation, he claimed responsibility for as many as 70 murders, though he later recanted. He was ultimately convicted of two murders and sentenced to death in both Florida and California. After nearly 30 years on death row, Glen Edward Rogers was executed by lethal injection in Florida on May 15, 2025. Authorities continue to suspect him in numerous other unsolved homicides. Sandra Gallagher’s murder remains one of the most haunting examples of how a kind and trusting nature can be exploited by a predator.
