In the winter of 1974, a sense of unease settled over parts of western Kansas. Cheryl Young, a 21-year-old Caucasian woman, her young son Guy, and her friend Dianne Lynn Lovett had vanished. The last trace of the trio was their abandoned car, discovered in December along the lonely stretch of Interstate 70 east of WaKeeney.
