On May 7, 2000, Ryan Gonzalez, a 16-year-old Latino male, was fatally shot while walking home from a party in the 3300 block of Silver Lake Boulevard in the Atwater Village neighborhood of Los Angeles. The area was known territory of the Toonerville gang. Gonzalez was a member of the rival Rascals gang and shared the street nickname 'Huero' with Timothy Joseph McGhee, a 27-year-old reputed leader of the Toonerville gang.
