Kamal Walters, a 23-year-old man from Columbus, Ohio, was fatally shot in the early hours of March 7, 2025, at a residence on Montmorency Drive in the Cherry Hill subdivision of Pickerington. The Pickerington Police Department received a 911 call at 3:43 a.m. reporting the shooting. The caller, a female, stated that Walters had been shot multiple times and that the suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers found Walters suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Samuel Stallworth, was located shortly after the incident. Officers stopped his vehicle on Hill Road, just north of the Diley Road intersection, and took him into custody without incident. Two firearms were recovered from the vehicle.
Authorities reported that Walters and Stallworth were inside the home with two females when a dispute broke out, leading to Stallworth shooting Walters multiple times. The two females present were not injured in the incident. Stallworth was later indicted by the Fairfield County Grand Jury on multiple charges, including aggravated murder, two counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault, and one count of improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting continues, with law enforcement officials working to determine the exact nature of the dispute that led to the fatal encounter. Walters' death has left the community in shock, as friends and family mourn the loss of the young man. Stallworth remains in custody as legal proceedings move forward.
