Bartosik, Lewis's nephew. Bartosik had been living temporarily with Lewis and other family members. The fatal confrontation stemmed from an ongoing domestic dispute. On the day of the shooting, Bartosik became engaged in an argument with his mother. When Michael Lewis and his daughter attempted to intervene, Bartosik retrieved a. 22 caliber handgun and opened fire. He shot his uncle in the face, with Lewis sustaining additional wounds to his chest and hand. Jessica Lewis was also shot in the head and back but survived her injuries.
When law enforcement arrived, Bartosik fired at the officers before eventually surrendering. He was taken into custody at the scene. Matthew S. Bartosik faced a 14-count indictment which included charges of second-degree murder, attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. In August of 2025, he pleaded guilty to all charges. Subsequently, Bartosik was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison for the murder of his uncle and the violent assault on his cousin.
