In the afternoon hours of February 4, 2025, a tragic event unfolded in Oklahoma City that claimed the life of 24-year-old Jasmin Chavez. A Hispanic female, Jasmin was engaged in a conversation with several individuals in the 1300 block of SW 38th Street when the encounter turned violent. At approximately 2:04 p.m., she was shot.
Following the shooting, Jasmin attempted to flee the scene in her vehicle.
However, wounded, she crashed into a nearby church building at 1411 SW 38th Street, about a block away from where the shooting occurred. Emergency services were dispatched to the location of the crash. First responders found Jasmin inside her car with a gunshot wound and transported her to a local hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. The incident was the third homicide in Oklahoma City for the year 2025.
The Oklahoma City Police Department launched an immediate investigation into the shooting. Their efforts quickly led to the identification of two suspects. By that evening, investigators had apprehended Ryan Jones, born on October 4, 2005, and Elizabeth Hernandez, born on October 13, 2008. Both were arrested on a complaint of first-degree murder. Jones was subsequently booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center, while Hernandez was taken to the Berry House, a juvenile detention facility.
