In the quiet suburban town of Edison, New Jersey, a frantic 911 call shattered the evening calm. It was Gregory Ginzburg, a 72-year-old male, on the line, his voice laced with fear as he reported an armed man, Igor Kirilenko, was inside his home on Clive Hills Road. During the call, a loud noise, believed to be a gunshot, abruptly ended the conversation, signaling a tragic turn of events.
When police arrived at the residence, they were met with a grim scene. Ginzburg was lying on the kitchen floor, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Standing nearby was the man Ginzburg had identified, 61-year-old Igor Kirilenko of Keasbey. As officers began to take control of the situation, Kirilenko was observed tossing an item, believed to be a handgun, onto the kitchen table.
As he was being escorted from the home, Kirilenko allegedly kicked Ginzburg's body, stating he wanted to ensure he was dead.
A witness who was present in the kitchen told investigators that Kirilenko had entered the house through a rear door and shot Ginzburg. Later, while at the hospital for an evaluation, Kirilenko reportedly told officers, 'I hope I killed him.'
Igor Kirilenko was arrested without incident and charged with first-degree murder and second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose. He was taken to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center to await a pre-trial detention hearing. The investigation into the relationship between the two men and the motive for the shooting is ongoing.
