On a December evening in 2017, the life of Tyrone Johnson, a 25-year-old African-American male, was cut short in Las Vegas, Nevada. On December 12th, within the confines of a trailer located on the 3600 block of Twain Circle, near the intersection of Twain Avenue and Nellis Boulevard, Johnson was fatally shot. Two men were reportedly let inside the residence, where they proceeded to a bedroom and shot Johnson multiple times.
The assailants then fled the scene in a minivan.
The investigation into Johnson's death stretched over several months. Initially, police had few leads, but witness interviews eventually pointed them toward a suspect. In August 2018, eight months after the shooting, an arrest was made. Authorities charged 41-year-old Elijah M. Lynum with the murder of Tyrone Johnson.
Detectives believe the motive for the killing was retaliatory. It is suspected that Johnson was involved in the beating of Lynum's brother, leading Lynum to seek revenge. It was reported that Lynum had bragged about the murder, providing details of the crime scene that aligned with the evidence collected by investigators. Lynum was one of three men who allegedly entered the bedroom and shot Johnson. At the time of his arrest for Johnson's murder, Lynum was also implicated in a separate homicide that occurred in August 2018.
