On the evening of Tuesday, January 21, 2025, a verbal altercation in the Cypress Lane area of Lexington, Nebraska, escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 40-year-old Hispanic male, Maykel Farinas Carballo. Lexington Police Officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 10:45 p.m. following a report of a disturbance. Upon their arrival, they discovered a silver two-door vehicle stalled in the front yard of a residence.
Inside the car, Farinas Carballo was found deceased.
The preliminary investigation revealed numerous bullet holes in the windshield and front of the vehicle, indicating a violent confrontation. Investigators processed the scene, collecting physical evidence and conducting interviews with witnesses to piece together the events of that night. It was reported that Farinas Carballo and the suspect had been in a disagreement prior to the shooting. Witnesses stated that Farinas Carballo had come to the suspect's residence where the fatal encounter occurred. Gunshots were heard outside the trailer, and the suspect was allegedly seen holding a handgun in the vicinity of where Farinas Carballo was located.
In connection with the shooting, authorities arrested 33-year-old Aristh D. Rodriguez Linares of Lexington. According to an affidavit, Rodriguez-Linares told a witness to call the police after the shooting and that he would place the handgun on the couch inside his residence and wait for law enforcement to arrive. He was subsequently taken into custody and booked into the Dawson County Jail.
Rodriguez-Linares has been charged with first-degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony, and discharging a firearm into a vehicle or person. He is currently being held without bail. The case is proceeding through the Dawson County District Court, with a status hearing continued at the request of the defendant. The Lexington Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Dawson County Sheriff's Office, the Buffalo County Sheriff's Office, and South-Central Area Law Enforcement Services.
