In the quiet community of Harvard, Nebraska, a heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded on February 21, 2025, claiming the life of 35-year-old Heather Lynn Andersen Gray, a White female. The events of that day stemmed from a domestic disturbance that escalated to a fatal conclusion, leaving a family and community in mourning. Just one day after she had filed for divorce, deputies were dispatched to her home following a distressing 911 call from her husband, Toby Gray, who had made threats against
her.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement discovered a horrific scene. Heather was found deceased inside the residence, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Her husband, 39-year-old Toby Gray, was also present, suffering from what was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Tragically, the couple's three young children, ages 7, 4, and 3, were in the home at the time of the incident but were physically unharmed. They were promptly placed in protective custody with family members.
Heather was a dedicated and well-loved Clinical Manager and Education Coordinator at Fillmore County Hospital. She had earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Grand Canyon University and was remembered by friends and family as a loving, kind, and genuine individual. Her life, full of promise and dedication to her children and her profession, was cut short in an act of violence that reverberated through her community.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Toby Gray was transported to a local hospital and then airlifted to a larger medical center in Lincoln due to the severity of his injuries. While undergoing treatment, he was arrested on charges of first-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony. However, on February 28, 2025, Toby Gray succumbed to his self-inflicted injuries and was pronounced dead. Following his death, the legal case against him was dismissed. Court documents related to the divorce filing revealed that Heather had sought sole custody of their children and had requested that her husband be excluded from the family home, citing concerns about potential disturbances.
