On a tragic spring morning, the life of 24-year-old Brianna Pauline Burton was cut short. On Sunday, April 27, 2025, at approximately 7:20 a.m., first responders were called to a hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland, for a report of a woman with a gunshot wound. The young female, identified as Brianna Burton of Centreville, Virginia, had been dropped off at the emergency room by a man who left before police could arrive.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, Brianna succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
The initial investigation quickly uncovered a grim narrative of domestic violence. While Brianna died in Silver Spring, detectives determined that the shooting had actually occurred in neighboring Prince George's County. The man who brought her to the hospital was identified through surveillance footage and witness accounts as her 32-year-old boyfriend, Rogerio Palma of College Park. On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, he was taken into custody by the Prince George's County Police Department's Fugitive Unit. She had been studying Civil Engineering at Virginia Tech and George Mason University and was already working as a civil engineer.
