On March 9, 2025, 17-year-old Ashton Dior Noah Hornsby, an African American male from Smyrna, Georgia, was fatally shot during an after-prom party in Powder Springs. The incident occurred shortly after midnight in the parking lot of West Cobb Plaza on New Macland Road. Emergency responders found Ashton with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest; he was transported to Cobb Wellstar Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
