On a cold January morning in Jerome, Idaho, the community was shaken by the tragic death of Sheyenne McKayla Schaer, a 29-year-old Caucasian woman. On January 14, 2025, deputies from the Jerome County Sheriff's Office responded to a call at approximately 11 a.m. and discovered a somber scene in the employee parking lot of a local business. Sheyenne was found deceased, alongside a man later identified as 31-year-old Brooke Schaer of Gooding.
Both had sustained apparent gunshot wounds.
An investigation by the Jerome County Sheriff's Office concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide. Authorities determined that Brooke Schaer shot Sheyenne twice before turning the gun on himself. Law enforcement officials stated that no other individuals were believed to be involved in the tragic event.
Sheyenne, born in Jerome on July 29, 1995, was a beloved mother, daughter, and sister. She had spent her early years in various Idaho towns before her family settled in Shoshone, where she graduated from high school. Known for her bubbly personality and competitive spirit, Sheyenne was active in volleyball, basketball, 4-H, and rodeo during her youth. At the time of her passing, she was pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the College of Southern Idaho and Nightingale College. She is remembered for her passion, ambition, and the deep love she had for her two sons, Paxton and Brooks.
