Sean Pfeffer, a 45-year-old man, was found dead on March 24, 2025, in Los Gatos, California. His body was discovered alongside another victim, 53-year-old Colter White, in the bed of a pickup truck parked in a pullout area along State Route 35, also known as Skyline Boulevard. The heavily wooded location is near several parks and trailheads, including Sanborn County Park and Castle Rock State Park. Authorities confirmed that both men had been fatally shot, and their deaths were classified as homicides.

Investigators determined that Pfeffer and White were residents of the Santa Cruz Mountains and were acquainted with the suspect. On April 9, law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at a home in Santa Cruz County, gathering evidence that led to the identification of a suspect. Subsequently, on April 28, authorities arrested 66-year-old James David Collier in connection with the killings. Collier, also a resident of Boulder Creek in Santa Cruz County, was taken into custody early Sunday morning and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail without bail.

While detectives have confirmed that Collier knew both victims, they have not disclosed details regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, and Collier is scheduled to appear in Santa Clara County Superior Court for further legal proceedings.
