Athena Marie Passidakis, a 21-year-old female, tragically lost her life on April 3, 2025, in Chico, California, in what authorities have described as a murder-suicide. The incident unfolded in the morning hours when Passidakis was abducted at gunpoint by 25-year-old Alvin Almontelasha Wilson in the 2700 block of Eaton Road. Witnesses reported hearing her scream for help, followed by gunfire and the sound of a vehicle speeding away.
Investigators later determined that Wilson had fired a handgun at Passidakis during the abduction and then forced her into his vehicle. While driving, he allegedly shot her again.
Law enforcement quickly responded to the situation, locating the suspect vehicle near State Route 32 and Meridian Road. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but Wilson refused to comply, leading to a police pursuit that ended in the 400 block of East 5th Avenue. Authorities, including the Chico Police Department, Butte County Sheriff’s Office, and Chico State University Police, deployed an armored rescue vehicle and used distraction devices in an effort to safely resolve the crisis and rescue Passidakis. No officers discharged their firearms during the incident.
When officers finally approached the vehicle, they discovered both Passidakis and Wilson inside, each suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical aid from paramedics, both individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities confirmed that Wilson was the perpetrator and that he and Passidakis had previously been in a dating relationship. The Chico Police Department stated that there had been no prior police contact involving Wilson and no known history of criminal behavior before this tragic event.
Passidakis was a student at Chico State University, where she had been studying health services administration since fall 2023. She was set to graduate in the spring and had been serving as an intern at Butte Home Health and Hospice. Her faculty described her as well-liked and respected among her peers. The university has since shared resources for students affected by the tragedy, emphasizing the importance of support for those impacted by dating or domestic violence.
The investigation remains active, with authorities urging anyone with additional information to come forward. Next of kin for both individuals have been notified, and the community continues to mourn the loss of Passidakis, remembering her as a promising young woman whose life was cut short in a devastating act of violence.
