On a tragic evening in Wolcott, Connecticut, a heated argument culminated in a devastating loss of life, claiming a 55-year-old White/Caucasian woman, Michelle Renee Cote, on March 27, 2025. The violence erupted at a home on Bound Line Road where Michelle, a resident of Colchester, was assisting her estranged husband, David Cote Sr., 59, with his move from the property they had once shared and were in the process of selling as part of their divorce proceedings.
Their son, David Cote Jr., 34, and his friend were also present to help with the move.
The day took a dark turn when a dispute broke out between Michelle and David Sr. In an attempt to de-escalate the situation, their son and his friend intervened. However, the argument escalated, leading David Sr. to fatally shoot both his wife and his son. The medical examiner later confirmed that Michelle Cote and David Cote Jr. both died from gunshot wounds to the torso, and their deaths were ruled as homicides.
In the immediate aftermath of the initial shootings, the son's friend, who was legally carrying a firearm, drew his weapon and shot David Cote Sr. The elder Cote succumbed to gunshot wounds to the head, neck, and torso, and his death was also ruled a homicide. When police arrived at the scene, they found all three deceased in a bedroom. David Cote Sr. was reportedly still gripping the gun he had used.
Subsequent investigations into the triple shooting concluded that the son's friend, Richard King, had acted in self-defense. As a result, law enforcement officials announced that they did not anticipate filing any charges against him. Michelle Cote, a mother and grandmother, was remembered by her loved ones as a woman of great strength, faith, and generosity.
