Laura Smither, a 12-year-old girl from Friendswood, Texas, went missing on April 3, 1997, after leaving her home for a morning jog. Her disappearance sparked an extensive search effort involving law enforcement, volunteers, and even the U.S. Marines. Tragically, after 17 days, her body was discovered near a retention pond in Pasadena, Texas, approximately 12 miles from her home.
