Orvel Lee Moore Jr., an 82-year-old man, passed away on January 30, 2001, in Nocona, Montague County, Texas. His death was linked to a series of suspicious fatalities at Nocona General Hospital, where multiple elderly patients died under unusual circumstances between December 2000 and February 2001.
Investigations into these deaths revealed that a licensed vocational nurse, Vickie Dawn Jackson, had been administering mivacurium chloride a powerful muscle relaxant, to patients.
This drug, typically used in controlled medical settings, was found to have been misused, leading to respiratory failure in vulnerable individuals. Jackson was suspected of targeting patients who had slighted her, including Moore, who had reportedly insulted her.
Authorities launched a joint investigation involving local police, the Texas Rangers, and the FBI to examine the deaths of more than 20 patients who may have been poisoned. Exhumations were conducted, and forensic analysis confirmed the presence of the paralytic drug in several victims. Jackson was arrested on July 16, 2002, and charged with multiple counts of capital murder. Despite her claims of innocence, she was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
