Jean Paul Talbot, a 26-year-old man, was found dead on May 27, 1989, near a stream in Defiance County, Ohio. His death was linked to the unidentified serial killer known as the I-70 Strangler, who was active between 1980 and 1991, targeting young boys and men in the Midwestern United States. The victims of the I-70 Strangler were often found naked or partially clothed near Interstate 70, dumped in rivers, streams, and ditches in rural areas.
Each had been strangled to death.
The I-70 Strangler was suspected to have met his victims in popular gay bars and similar establishments in Indianapolis before abducting and murdering them. While the case remains officially unsolved, deceased businessman Herb Baumeister was considered a suspect in over a dozen homicides in Indiana, including those attributed to the I-70 Strangler. However, no definitive evidence has been found to conclusively link Baumeister to Talbot’s murder.
Investigations into the I-70 Strangler’s crimes have spanned decades, but no arrests have been made in connection with Talbot’s death. The case remains open, with authorities continuing to seek leads that could identify the perpetrator responsible for the series of murders along Interstate 70.
