Kim Wendy Allen, a 19-year-old Caucasian female, was a student at Santa Rosa Junior College in California. On March 4, 1972, she was last seen hitchhiking from her job at a health food store in Larkspur, Marin County, intending to return home to Santa Rosa. Hitchhiking was a common practice at the time, and despite warnings from her mother and a college instructor about its dangers, Allen frequently relied on it for transportation.
