In May 2007, the body of 26-year-old Whitnei Dubois was discovered by passersby at a rural crossroads five miles outside of Jennings in Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana. Her naked body was the first of the 'Jennings 8' victims to be found on dry land, a detail that stood out in a string of cases where victims were more commonly found in canals or swamps. Although a significant amount of drugs were found in her system, an official cause of death for Dubois was never determined.
Dubois was one of eight women, who became known as the 'Jeff Davis 8' or 'Jennings 8,' whose bodies were found between 2005 and 2009 in similar circumstances in the same rural area. The victims, who ranged in age from 17 to 30, often knew each other and shared common struggles with poverty and drug abuse. Many of them also served as police informants, fueling speculation and rumors within the community. While the causes of death for all eight women varied, with some having their throats slashed and others, like Dubois, having undetermined causes, authorities have considered the possibility of a single perpetrator.
Despite extensive investigation and the formation of a multi-agency task force, no one has ever been convicted in connection with Whitnei Dubois' death, and her case, along with the others in the Jennings 8, remains unsolved. Over the years, several individuals have been considered suspects and some arrests were made in the broader investigation of the eight deaths, but charges were ultimately dropped due to a lack of evidence. One frequently mentioned person of interest is a local strip club owner and suspected drug dealer named Frankie Richard, who reportedly knew and had interactions with most of the victims. The mysterious deaths and the lack of resolution have left the community of Jennings grappling with fear and suspicion for years.
