In the mid-1970s, Ricardo Silvio Caputo, an Argentine American known as 'The Lady Killer,' was active as a serial killer in the United States and Mexico. Born in 1949 in Mendoza, Argentina, Caputo moved to New York City in 1970. His criminal activities spanned several years, during which he was linked to multiple murders.
In 1977, Caputo fled to Mexico City, where he became involved with Laura Marie Gomez, a 21-year-old college student. On October 3, 1977, Gomez was found dead in her apartment at the age of 23. She had been brutally beaten, stomped to death, and tortured; her teeth had been pulled out, and an autopsy revealed she was two-and-a-half months pregnant. Authorities believed that Caputo was both her killer and the father of her unborn child.
Caputo remained a fugitive throughout the 1980s, evading capture for numerous years. It wasn't until March 9, 1994, that he surrendered to New York City police, claiming that his victims were haunting his dreams and expressing fear that he might kill again. Upon his surrender, Caputo confessed to the murders of Nathalie Brown, Judith Becker, Barbara Ann Taylor, and Laura Gomez. He was subsequently incarcerated at Attica State Prison in New York, where he died of a heart attack on October 1, 1997, at the age of 48.
