Jackie Gilliam, along with 13-year-old Jacqueline Leah Lamp, was abducted by Bittaker and Norris on September 2, 1979. The two girls were hitchhiking when they were picked up by the killers in their van. The van, which was specially modified for their heinous acts, had a bed in the rear and a hidden compartment for storing tools and other items. The girls were taken to a remote location where they were subjected to unspeakable acts of violence and torture before being killed.
Lawrence Bittaker and Roy Norris were eventually apprehended and brought to trial for their crimes. Bittaker was sentenced to death for the murders of the five teenage girls, including Jackie Gilliam. He died of natural causes while on death row at San Quentin State Prison in December 2019. Norris, on the other hand, accepted a plea bargain and testified against Bittaker. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with the possibility of parole after 30 years, but he died of natural causes in February 2020.
