Lucinda Lynn 'Cindy' Schaefer, a 16-year-old Caucasian female, was tragically murdered on June 24, 1979, in Los Angeles, California. Cindy had recently moved to the area to stay with her grandparents and planned to spend the summer working and enjoying the beach. Her life was cut short by Lawrence Bittaker and Roy Norris, infamously known as the 'Toolbox Killers'.
Cindy was abducted, assaulted, and killed by these two men, who used various tools to torture and murder their victims.
Lawrence Bittaker and Roy Norris were responsible for the kidnapping, rape, torture, and murder of five teenage girls in Southern California over a five-month period in 1979. Bittaker was sentenced to death for five murders on March 24, 1981, but died of natural causes while incarcerated on death row at San Quentin State Prison in December 2019. Norris accepted a plea bargain whereby he agreed to testify against Bittaker and was sentenced to life imprisonment on May 7, 1980, with the possibility of parole after serving thirty years. He died of natural causes at California Medical Facility in February 2020.
Cindy's remains were never found, despite extensive searches and efforts by law enforcement. The case of Cindy Schaefer and the other victims of the Toolbox Killers remains a chilling reminder of the brutality and inhumanity that can exist in the world.
