Lewis Markham Huffman, a 27-year-old white male, met a tragic end on April 26, 1909, in Marshall, Texas. Huffman, who served as a Deputy Sheriff for Harrison County, was killed in the line of duty while investigating a disturbance at a railroad camp. As Huffman and another deputy approached the scene, they were met with gunfire. Both officers were struck, and Huffman succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His partner survived the attack.
