Rory Jones, a 21-year-old from San Francisco, was tragically killed on January 19, 2012, in the Bayview District. Rory was sitting in his car at Revere Avenue when he was shot by an assailant after a brief verbal exchange. Reports indicate that Rory did not provoke the shooter and the incident seemed to be related to drug activity in the neighborhood.
Despite Rory’s criminal involvement in his past, his family remembers him as someone who took care of his siblings and his mother, and was committed to improving his circumstances.
Rory had faced numerous hardships from a young age, growing up in a difficult environment surrounded by poverty and drugs. He became a provider for his family early on, taking care of his mother and younger siblings. After spending time in jail, Rory tried to move away from his criminal past, caring for his children and reducing his involvement in street activities. Despite these efforts, he was targeted and killed before he could fully transition to a stable life. His death remains a painful reminder of the violence that continues to plague his community.
