Bryan Drew Boone, a 19-year-old male of Caucasian ethnicity, tragically lost his life on May 4, 1986, in Hawkins, Texas. Boone, along with his girlfriend Gena Turner and their friend Suzanne Harrison , were kidnapped by Jerry Walter McFadden, also known as "The Animal," while they were on a trip to Lake Hawkins. McFadden, a serial rapist and murderer with a long criminal history, raped and strangled Harrison before dumping her body in a park about 25 miles from Lake Hawkins.
Three days after the kidnapping, the bodies of Boone and Turner were discovered, both having been shot execution-style with a .38-caliber pistol. The investigation quickly focused on McFadden, who was arrested on May 6, 1986, after a police report from a couple he had attacked by the lake on the day of the murders. Ammunition found in McFadden's possession was identified as the same ammunition used in the killings.
McFadden attempted to escape from jail on July 9, 1986, taking a female prison officer as a hostage. This led to the largest manhunt in Texas history, involving 1,200 officers. McFadden was recaptured two days later and sentenced to life imprisonment for the escape. In July 1987, he was sentenced to death for the murders of Boone, Turner, and Harrison. Despite appeals, the Texas Appeals Court affirmed the conviction and sentence in November 1993. McFadden was executed by lethal injection on October 14, 1999.
