On June 24, 2015, Jorge Vargas, a 31-year-old Hispanic male from San Antonio, Texas, was fatally shot near Neal Elementary School on the city's North Side. According to police reports, Vargas was standing outside his vehicle in a residential area when a man in a dark-colored car approached, shot him, and then fled the scene. Despite being wounded, Vargas managed to inform the authorities about the incident before succumbing to his injuries the following day at University Hospital.
