On the afternoon of September 5, 2024, a violent confrontation unfolded in the Carr Square neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, resulting in the death of Lamar Howell. The 51-year-old male was at a residence in the 1000 block of Selby Place when he became involved in a heated altercation with another man. The dispute quickly escalated into a physical fight, during which both individuals produced firearms. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, both men sustained gunshot wounds, with Howell suffering critical injuries.
Emergency medical services did not transport Howell; instead, he was privately conveyed to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition before succumbing to his injuries. The second individual involved in the shootout, a 46-year-old man, was also struck by gunfire but was transported by EMS to a hospital in stable condition. Following his medical treatment, police determined he was fit for confinement and he was subsequently released into police custody, facing potential charges related to the incident.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department's District 4 detectives took over the investigation, initially marking the case as a fight involving mutual combatants. However, authorities later released images of two additional subjects who were present during the incident and were being sought for questioning in connection with the shooting.
