Alejandro Tomas Rodriguez, a three-year-old boy from Bastrop, Texas, tragically lost his life on July 23, 2016. Alejandro was born on July 26, 2012, and was a resident of Bastrop. His death was part of a horrific incident that occurred at the Arbors of Bastrop Apartments on Childers Street.
On the day of the incident, Alejandro's mother, Erica Rodriguez, and her friend Paula Nino were both killed by Alejandro's father, Alejandro Martinez, who then took his own life.
The incident began as a result of a verbal dispute between Alejandro Martinez and his girlfriend, Erica Rodriguez. During the argument, Martinez grabbed a rifle and shot Erica Rodriguez, Paula Nino, and his three-year-old son, Alejandro Rodriguez. Alejandro Martinez then turned the gun on himself, resulting in his death.
The Bastrop Police Department, along with the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers, responded to the scene and conducted a thorough investigation. The investigation revealed that Alejandro Martinez had a history of heavy drinking and was described by neighbors as a hard worker. Despite this, he and Erica Rodriguez were seen as a normal, happy family who often spent time together at the pool and with friends.
The tragic event left the community in shock, and makeshift memorials were created at the apartment complex to honor the victims. Friends and neighbors gathered to support the grieving families, and fundraising efforts were initiated to help cover funeral expenses.
In the aftermath of the incident, no further arrests or litigations were pursued, as Alejandro Martinez had died by suicide at the scene. The case was closed with the conclusion that the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide.
The loss of Alejandro Rodriguez, a young boy of Hispanic ethnicity, deeply affected his family and the community, leaving a lasting impact on all those who knew him.
