Patricia McSwain Garner, a 58-year-old woman from Rusk, Texas, tragically passed away on October 24, 2016. She was a beloved nurse who had dedicated over 30 years of her life to caring for patients at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Jacksonville. Patricia was known for her compassion, work ethic, and dedication to mentoring new nurses. She was also an avid painter, gardener, and cook who cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
The circumstances surrounding Patricia's death were determined to be an apparent murder-suicide. On the morning of October 25, 2016, Cherokee County Sheriff's deputies were called to a scene on County Road 2303, about three miles south of Rusk. They discovered Patricia and her husband, James Allan Garner, 61, dead from gunshot wounds in their yard. The investigation revealed that James had shot Patricia with a shotgun before turning the weapon on himself. Their bodies were sent to Tyler for autopsy.
No arrests or suspects were identified in connection with Patricia's death, as it was determined to be a murder-suicide. There were no ongoing litigations, murder cases, or investigations related to her death, as the incident was resolved with the conclusion of the investigation.
Patricia's funeral service was held on October 28, 2016, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville, with Rev. Don Copeland officiating. She was laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park in Jacksonville, Texas. Patricia is remembered fondly by her family, friends, and the countless patients she cared for throughout her career.
