Anthony Rivas, a 17-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity, tragically died on November 28, 2016, in Del Rio, Texas. He was one of two teenagers who were fatally shot in an incident that took place in South Del Rio. The other victim, Pedro Calvillo, 18, also succumbed to gunshot wounds to the head. The Del Rio Police Department responded to the scene at 406 W. Martinez St. after receiving reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, they found both Rivas and Calvillo with fatal injuries and transported them to Val Verde Regional Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.
The DRPD recovered a firearm from the scene but did not disclose whether it was a pistol or a long gun. The bodies were later sent to the Webb County Medical Examiner’s Office in Laredo for autopsies. DRPD Chief Waylon Bullard stated that the incident was believed to be isolated and did not pose a danger to the community. However, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting continued.
As of now, there have been no arrests or suspects publicly identified in connection with Anthony Rivas's death. The DRPD has not released further details about the case, citing the ongoing investigation. The community and the families of the victims have been left seeking answers and justice for the senseless loss of two young lives.
