In the early morning hours of September 9, 2013, homicide investigators in St. Louis, Missouri, were alerted to a violent incident that began with reports of gunfire. Police originally responded to a call regarding a shooting on the 8400 block of Halls Ferry Road around 2:05 a.m. Upon arrival at that initial location, officers were unable to locate a victim, prompting a wider search of the surrounding area in the dark, quiet streets of the Baden neighborhood.
The search concluded a short time later at the intersection of Tillie Avenue and Newby Street, where investigators discovered a vehicle with a man inside. The occupant, identified as 21-year-old Dashon Marquise Lee, had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene. It was later revealed that the young Black male resided on the 1000 block of Tillie Avenue, just a short distance from where his body was found, suggesting he may have been close to home when the violence occurred.
Following the discovery, homicide detectives canvassed the neighborhood and processed the scene for evidence.
